EVOLUTION OF SASK:
Inspired by inner calls and attracted by the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s integral yoga some of the aspirants were getting to gather on Darshan days since late seventies of last century in western zone of Ahmedabad. Such meditation programmes were held at the places of devotees on Darshan Days. The collective aspiration for a regular meeting place was fulfilled in 1991. A Center, Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra, commenced its functioning with offering of space by a devotee at Ayojan Nagar. It started its work on the day of Janmastami [birth day of Shri Krishna]. The Centre at that time was popularly known as Ayojan Nagar Centre also. It moved to other locations i.e. Ambawadi and then to Sharda Nagar as the circumstances required. Devotees regularly participating in the activities and visitors coming occasionally to the Centre felt the need for having a building of its own for Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra. With grace of the Divine Mother Mahalaxmi money started flowing in for the project with initial offering of Rs. ten lakh from a devotee. Some of the devotees with exceptional sense of consecration and act of devotion offered their most precious valuables to the Auro-Ma Trust[SAT] for enabling to have building for the centre. This helped and encouraged the Trust to go ahead to construct a new building on a plot No. 63 at Yashkamal Society, which is completed in 2007.
Right from the beginning late Shri Dyumanbhai, Managing Trustee of Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, Puducherry was a source of guidance in deciding modalities for organizing the Centre and the formation of Trust to run the Centre. Late Shri Lallubhai Patel, a senior sadhak at Ashram nurtured it. Likewise, Late Shri Ambapremi Shah, the first chairman of SAT also helped in giving concrete shape to the Trust and the Centre. Late Shri Randhirbhai Upadhyaya with initiation of his darshan day programmes in Ahmedabad helped form a group that led the formation of the Centre while late Shri Punamchand Shah inspired and concretized the idea of having building of its own for the Centre.
Under the aegis of Sri Auro-Ma Trust “Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra” has been actively working for over a decade and half in western zone of metropolitan city of Ahmedabad.
